SCARECROW CONTEST

Imaginations ran wild and that paid off for the winners of the Cool Patch Pumpkins Scarecrow Contest this year. Several contestants walked away with what added up to thousands of dollars over the weekend.

Dana Frazer of Vacaville was the big winner, scoring Best of Show for her entry, “Ichabod’s Fright.” Other contestants, including Fermin Rubio of Dixon received awards. His “Gone Fishing” (a scarecrow, with goggles, riding on a mini bike), won first prize in the adult category. Hillebert Clan of Suisun City won for his “Headless Drinking Guy” creation. Other entrants received honors for such scarecrows as the “Starbucks Girl” and the “Headless Horseman.”

“We were amazed at the workmanship and the time it took to create these awesome scarecrows,” said Matt Cooley, owner of Cool Patch Pumpkins. “They are really works of art!”

The scarecrows will be on display at Cool Patch Pumpkins from now until November 9. Visitors to the patch can also enjoy the challenges of the Largest Corn Maze in the World (designated by the Guinness Book of World Records), and choose their favorite pumpkins, right off the vine, for their Halloween festivities.

The event continues from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and ends on November 9. Cool Patch Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze is located at 8850 Currey Road or 8700 Sievers Road in Dixon.
